A MOMENT OF ZEN: THE RIFLES

Posted by Winston's Zen on 14 July 2009

THE GREAT ESCAPE VIDEO

If you've been around these pages before you'll already be well aware that we've got a bit of a soft spot for London four-piece The Rifles. You might remember Winston's Zen was the first blog to post the video to The General way back in February.

Well, the boys are back with another slice of typically upbeat indie. The (almost) title track - and some might say stand-out track - from their brilliant second album The Great Escape saw the light of day as a single a few weeks ago. Boasting both their trademark life-affirming chorus and brain-burrowing rhythm is a track you'll be humming for hours after only a couple of listens.

It's also a track I should have reviewed long ago. And if it weren't for that pesky gig-night of mine, taking up every free moment I would've done it too. Instead, I'm making it today's Moment of Zen.

If you haven't already got your copy Great Escape (the entire album, mind) is available for download from the bands homepage for a preposterously generous £2. The Rifles also host their own new club night Narrow Minded Social Club at Proud in Camden where they're auditioning bands to support them at the Coronet in October.

Next week sees Zendar favourites Torrents take the stage along with the Bibelots, The Federals and Logan Courts.

Back Soon,
Winston
